The Central Academic Building is officially open!
Texas A&M University-San Antonio meets another momentous milestone with the grand opening of the new Central Academic Building at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. Senator Carlos Uresti presided as Master of Ceremonies and was joined on stage by speakers Senator John Whitmire, Representative Joe Farias, San Antonio Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran, Regent Elaine Mendoza, Chancellor John Sharp, Henry Muñoz, President & CEO of Muñoz & Company, and Randy Pawelek, Chairman & CEO of Bartlett Cocke General Contractors.
The new building received three blessings by Rabbi Peter Tarlow, Director at the Center for Crypto-Jewish Studies and Hispanic-Jewish Relations, Pastor Ruben Duarte, Senior Pastor at The New Life Center, and Father Jimmy Drennan, from St. Margaret Mary's Parish. After the ceremony in the auditorium, the delegation moved outside to the main courtyard for the ribbon cutting and balloon release. The maroon and silver balloons were biodegradable and filled with Texas wildflower seeds.
"As we formally open the doors to this majestic building, I am reminded of where it all began, and I can only imagine what the future holds for our community, our city, and our students," said Dr. Maria Hernandez Ferrier.
The ceremony was covered by WOAI and KABB and reported on by The Rivard Report, WOAI News Radio, and the Virtual Builders Exchange.

A new image to lead A&M-SA into the future
To coincide with the grand opening of the Central Academic Building, A&M-San Antonio unveiled its new logo to replace the "rose window" logo. Designed by Torch Creative, LLC, the new logo draws inspiration from the historical San Antonio missions and features the iconic dome atop the campus' newest building.
"Torch Creative was honored to assist Texas A&M-San Antonio in the creation of a new academic identity. We loved being able to capture the dome of the new Central Academic Building as we felt it would be the most unique and iconic solution to best represent the direction and growth of the University," said Brad Bishop of Torch Creative, LLC. "We hope the new look will represent the University for many years to come."
